Asega

Est. Date of Birth 1998

Male

My name is Asega and I arrived at Ngamba in 1999. I’m originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and my name means ‘born in the bush’ in the Lugbara language. I don’t like to brag but I am very intelligent and acrobatic. I often have to stay in the holding facility with Mawa because I can easily jump over the electric fence and lead the caregivers on a merry chase around the island. I enjoy rough & tumble play with the other males but I’m not aggressive. I use my brains rather than my muscles to resolve conflicts.

My Story

Asega (Profile of the athletic Chimpanzee of Ngamba Island)

Blood, sweat, and tears don’t even come close to the training that I’ve done. If you’ve ever visited Ngamba Island, I believe you’ve heard about my talent. The care givers say that if they ever organized Chimpanzee Olympic Games, they know I would win everything in the category of high Jump, acrobatics and fastest runner. I can give Javier Sotomayor, the high jump record holder at 2.45metres a run for his money because my record is at 5 metres.

But, I’m just a Chimpanzee whose place is in the forest otherwise if I was allowed to go for Olympic Games, I would leave many a conservation enthusiasts shocked at my behavior.

I was born in the bush hence the name Asega which means born in the bush in Lugbara. Although it leaves me wondering, where else would a Chimpanzee be born?

If I was allowed to come up with a name for myself I would go for Einstein since I tend to calculate my moves in the forest before I attack any Chimpanzee.

I am that smart and I picture myself as the smartest Chimpanzee to ever live at Ngamba Island. If you want to prove me wrong find me at Ngamba Island.
