Katie
Est. Date of Birth 1987
Female
My name is Katie and I am easy to identify because I have a damaged ear. I arrived at Ngamba in 1998 and am also the mother of Kyewunyo. I am an influential female and like to stand straight up to always be able to keep an eye on my daughter. I prefer to sleep in the holding facility at night and am usually one of the first to return each evening. My best friends are Tumbo and Peace.
My Story
Katie (profile of the first lady of Ngamba Island)
They say, the crown of old age is wisdom but I say the crown of old age is to see your child give birth to her own children. I feel replicated every time I see the face of my grandchild.
My name is Chimp mama now Grandma Katie, I arrived at Ngamba Island when I was seven years old, now I’m 29 years old and I must say, I was the first Chimpanzee to raise a child at the Island and now that child also has an opportunity to raise her own child at the same Island.
You may never know how much it warms my heart but it does. There life is going to be possible by the support rendered to us by the care givers.
So every time you visit Ngamba Island remember to say, thank you to them and tell them Chimp Mama/Grandma Katie said so. My grandchild and I are looking forward to seeing you.
