Namukisa
Est. Date of birth 1999
Female
My name is Namukisa and I arrived at Ngamba in 2000. In Luganda, the word ‘mukisa’ means ‘luck’ but since I’m a girl, they added the ‘Na’ which makes it feminine. My best friend is Billi and I am pretty low ranking so I keep to myself and love to climb trees.
My Story
Namukisa (The Good girls of Ngamba Island)
I am the gift that was, a Chimpanzee with a name of the most coveted outcome in life—Luck.
That’s the meaning of my name. With a little twist, I am the luck that holds together the very rocks that makeup this Island. I’m like the living legend that walks among my people.
But my life didn’t start here, I originated from the Democratic Republic of Congo and I was confiscated from the border town of Bwera from where I arrived at Ngamba Island on 2nd July 2000.
I am a very calm individual and as luck would have it, I am among the good girls of Ngamba Island. We are not quite many here but I and my girls avoid conflict at all costs but if we must fight, we do so without screaming.
Screaming is for the weaklings that need support, we don’t. We are as strong as we are meek. Overtime, through rehabilitation, we have learned that our strength is not measured according to how many fights we get in but in how much peace we promote in our community.
That is why Ngamba Island is the most peaceful chimpanzee destination in the world.
Are you looking for peace? Be sure to find it at Ngamba Island.
