Natasha
Est. Date of birth 1990
Female
My name is Natasha and I arrived at Ngamba in 1998. I am very high ranking and enjoy giving attention to the dominant males in the group. I am very clever and like to clap my hands during feeding time to gain the attention of the caregivers so they will throw me more food. I also tend to hold a grudge and will wait for the right moment to get my revenge, sometimes even days later.
My Story
Natasha
I suppose you’ve come across the phrase “98.7% human being” a lot. Well when scientists say Chimpanzee’s are your closest relative, they are not lying to you, because they have me in mind every time they use the phrase.
My name is Natasha and I am one of the smartest Chimpanzee’s in the world according to the Maxplank research which was conducted on Chimpanzee’s worldwide.
In the research I was presented with a test tube that had a peanut in it and a bottle of water. I poured the water in the test tube and the peanut came up and I ate it.
Then later they put a peanut in the test tube but didn’t give me any water. Those researchers must have thought themselves smart. I decided to urinate in the test tube and the peanut came up.
They gasped and started saying she’s smart! She’s so smart!
But that’s not the only smart thing that I’ve ever done, during my rehabilitation at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, I was the Chimp that tricked visitors to come to my cage only to pour water on them just for the thrill of it.
I know, I make it hard for you to imagine that I could possibly do that to visitor’s since I am a Ugandan Chimp that originates from Kibale/Itwara forest, I should have a bit of a cultural bone in me but I tend not to use it.
I am still a trickster even at 26 and if you want to see some of my new tricks find me at Ngamba Island.
