Rutoto
Est. Date of birth 2004
Male
My name is Rutoto and I arrived at Ngamba in 2006. I get my name after the village where I was confiscated from two women. The Uganda Wildlife Authority rescued me and believe my mother had been killed and sold as bushmeat. Despite my tragic start, I am a healthy and well-integrated chimp at Ngamba.
Our Story
Rutoto (Profile of a low ranking male)
Life is really interesting from this vantage point. I mean the forest, the lake, the island, everything just seems interesting to me better than it was in 2006.
I was rescued from Rutoto Village in Bushenyi district. I was also named after that village— Rutoto, that’s what they call me.
I had no choice over that though but here are some of the things that I like to do when I have a choice, like feeding among the adult Chimpanzees, being comfortable only around Umutama, the alpha male, by the way my interest in politics only peaks when I’m around him and I made some low ranking friends like Kikyo and Rambo.
All those were my choices. I think things get better when you have a choice in life.
Make that choice today and visit us at Ngamba Island.
Looking forward
