TUMBO

Est. Date of birth 1989

Male

My name is Tumbo and I arrived at Ngamba in 1998. When I first arrived I was kind of sick and had a very bloated stomach which is how I got my name. Tumbo means ‘stomach’ in Swahili. I have always had silver hair all around my face making me look older and quite distinguished so I have since earned the nickname ‘The Diplomat’. Despite my large size and high rank, I am usually gentle and calm, further lending to my nickname.

My Story

Tumbo (Profile of Mika’s friend)

When we arrived at Ngamba Island we were all orphaned and didn’t know each other but somehow through integration love bound us together.

It made the unfamiliar familiar and the unfriendly and timid, friendly and fearless. My name is Tumbo and I’ve been here since October 1998 that is where I met my brother Mika, as it is this Island managed to bind us together and built a nice big family for all of us.

But these days I tend to ask myself what life is worth if his not here with me?  You see my brother died in 2013—–, since then my life has never been the same.

It’s almost four years now and I am doing my best to move on, one of my sister’s Kidogo and brother’s Eddy, Robbie, Maisko and Umutama have made the situation easier for me but it’s still hard to forget.

It still feels strange every passing year, for instance this year I will be celebrating my 27th birthday without him. It’s still hard to take in. We were supposed to grow old together.

At least that’s what I thought. But he died and somehow I’m expected move on.

They say time heals all wounds but I think friendship does the Magic. Will you come visit me? Find me at Ngamba Island.
