In my culture chimpanzees are seen as bad animals because they destroy people’s crops and kill people.
But my experience at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, is starting to change that mindset because I’m learning that chimpanzees will only destroy your crops when there are no fruit trees for them to feed on or when forests are destroyed that’s when they feel the need to come and live amongst nearby villages.
That knowledge has helped me change my mind set in the way I apply my accounting in wildlife conservation.
Now I can try pant hoot, I like the way chimps raise their hands up and clap when they are asking for food at feeding times like cute little babies and the way they groom each other in the evenings, it’s quite amazing.
