The resilience fund for associations under our project funded by Darwin fund “Community adaptability to the loss occasioned by wildlife’’ project.
Chimpanzee Trust has mitigated Human-Wildlife Conflicts through the implementation of various interventions and among which involved the Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) management resilience fund.
This is on its end tail and has to date improved the communities’ resilience to shocks emanating from crop loss occasioned by wild animals. Under this intervention, Village Saving and Loans Associations were formed in 32 villages of Kikuube district.
These associations then elected executives to a Community Based Organisation (CBO) in each of the four parishes, to manage a resilience fund to which they contribute monthly.
The project also contributed a seed fund of elven million to each of the CBO’s, to help their funds grow. Further to that, the Trust won a COVID-19 Rapid Response grant application to measure the impact of the pandemic on their livelihoods, as well as provide more inputs for farmers that may have been affected, over the next two months.
