SAVE THE CHIMPS – WILDLIFE EXHIBITION

26TH TO 28TH MAY, 2016

This project is a fundraising exhibition that forms part of a collaborative creative process between the Chimpanzee Trust (Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary) with artists, Taga Nuwagaba, Barbara Hollweg, Nuwa Nyanzi and Medina, the Chimp Artist and an Independent Curator Robinah Nansubuga.

Over a period of three days, 26th to 28th May, 2016, a series of videos, discussions, children painting art works like paintings by Taga Nuwagaba, a renowned wildlife painter, photographs by Barbara Hollweg, a wildlife photographer, and a work of collaboration between Nuwa Nyanzi and Medina, the chimpanzee will be showcased at the Lion Centre, Sheraton Kampala Hotel with a focus on fundraising for the potential medical facility for the rescued chimpanzees at Chimpanzee Trust, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

The exhibition is a pant hoot (a call) towards conservation and support of wildlife. The MEDICAL FACILITY fundraising will be through activities like purchasing a ticket to the raffle draw to win free trips to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, purchase of the art works from both artists and an auctioned artwork painted by Medina, the Chimp and Nuwa Nyanzi.

The exhibition revolves around relationships between human and wildlife interactions alongside the creation of medical facility at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. “Jewels of the Jungle engages with the issues pertinent to conservation by looking at how creative practices such as painting and photography can act as magnifying tools to make visible the need to protect wildlife a reality.”

The exhibition will also present a series of engagements and outputs that carefully occupy the reality of wildlife with the insertion of a video scenario that makes the viewer re imagine chimpanzee as humans hence the need to help them live healthy. The exhibition shows a conceptualized position of artistic practice rooted in the knowledge of production seeking collaboration with the members of the public, Wildlife conservationists, to come together to protect our environment by protecting the wildlife.
